Thinking of a Move to Bowmanville? Here’s What You Need to Know

Camcos Living has recently announced the launch of Ravine Mills, its new collection of singles and semis in Bowmanville. These 33 homes are located just off Nelson and Albert Streets along Bowmanville Creek, just a few minutes’ walk from the shops and restaurants of King Street and no more than 10 minutes from the city’s beaches.

If you’re thinking of a move, we’ve put together a quick primer on this lakeside community east of Toronto.

The Basics: Beaches & A New GO Station

Bowmanville is the largest community in Clarington, Durham’s easternmost municipality. The municipality is also home to communities like Newcastle, Orono, and Courtice. Bowmanville has a population of about 60,000 and includes access to several beaches and parks on the Lake Ontario waterfront. The town has access to Highways 401 and 407 and is the location of a future GO train station.

The Downtown: Walk Along King Street

One of Bowmanville’s most attractive features is its rich collection of independently owned businesses clustered around the town’s main street. King Street is a walkable, historic thoroughfare that features around 200 shops, restaurants, and personal services. There, you’ll find cafés like Roam Coffee and The Toasted Walnut, restaurants like The Yardbird and Three Six Kitchen, and clothing stores like Petit Nordique Boutique. At the east end of King Street, you’ll also find Markets Ontario, a year-round, indoor market that features independent vendors selling everything from chicken sandwiches to vintage records.

The Community: Schools & Community Centres

Bowmanville is a well-rounded town that includes a wide range of community services with everything from public, Catholic, and private schools to recreation centres, day camps, and more. That includes:

  • 19 public schools
  • Seven Catholic schools
  • Four private schools
  • Alan Strike Aquatic and Squash Centre
  • Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex
  • Courtice Community Complex
  • Diane Hamre Recreation Complex

The Scenery: Waterfront Parks & Conservation Areas

For nature lovers, Bowmanville has a nice mix of waterfront parks and forested conservation areas. From Ravine Mills, you’ll find three beaches just a 10-minute drive away: Bowmanville Harbour, Port Darlington East Beach Park, and Port Darlington West Beach Park. All of these are accessible by nearby paths, allowing for a four-kilometre nature walk from Ravine Mills. You’ll also have access to 500 acres of protected green space and 32 kilometres of waterfront trails running along the Bowmanville and Newcastle lakefronts.

Beyond the waterfront, you’ll find conservation areas like Stephen’s Gulch, Durham East Cross Forest, and Ganaraska Forest. In addition to trail running and nature walks, you’ll also have access to off-roading, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing.

The Commute: Future GO & Highway Access

From Ravine Mills, it’ll take you just three minutes to get to Highway 401. You’ll also be just an 11-minute drive away from Highway 407, which is now toll-free east of Brock Road. And once GO train service begins running from the new Bowmanville station, you’ll shave 15 minutes off your commute into downtown Toronto.

The Savings
